Off Plan Purchase from Rushmon Homes means Mei and Gavin won't lose out
8th November, 2007

Although Mei Woo firmly insists that her new Rushmon Homes apartment at Aspirations in Sutton is “a home not an investment”, she and boyfriend Gavin Kan have shown some sharp financial acumen in choosing to buy it off-plan. Perhaps it’s because both of them work in the financial world – Mei in banking and Gavin for one of the large accountancy firms – or it could simply be the result of seeing exactly what they wanted and making sure that their ideal new home would definitely be theirs.

Mei admits to having had some unfortunate experiences with homes they had tried to buy previously, having been gazumped by both a private vendor and a developer. “We wasted time, and probably lost out on other places that we could have bought,” she says. “It was very annoying.” But by choosing to buy off-plan at Aspirations, they not only secured the apartment of their choosing, but got a contribution towards the stamp duty. The couple are now looking forward to moving into their two bedroom apartment, with balcony and en suite bathroom, around the beginning of December 2007.

The story began back in April. Mei and Gavin, who are currently renting in New Malden, knew the Sutton area through friends who live in the town, and started looking for a home to buy in the area. Mei recalls: “I happened to walk past the site and saw that the boards had just been put up. I liked the leafy road and went straight in to the sales office to find out more. It turned out that they had only just opened, and everyone was very helpful.” The area appealed because it is close enough to the station to walk, but not so close that noise is a problem. “We can walk there in about ten minutes, eight if we are running late!” Mei says.

She and Gavin really like Sutton, and realise that south Sutton, the location for Aspirations, is one of the best areas. “Everyone keeps telling me that,” Mei continues. She has already started exploring the town centre, finding bookstores, cafés, restaurants and many more outlets. Commuting from Sutton will be another advantage for the couple. Both have offices in the City so travel times of around 35 minutes to London Bridge are very convenient.

They own a car, so having a parking space at Aspirations is appreciated and Mei says Sutton is an ideal place for reaching other areas they like, such as Wimbledon, Ewell and Cheam village

There are currently just seven apartments remaining at Aspirations, and the newly launched show apartment will undoubtedly draw further interest. Buyers are choosing Aspirations not only for the location but for a chic modern specification combined with the intelligent use of space and careful attention to detail. There are custom designed fitted kitchens, with integrated and stainless steel appliances, white and chrome bathrooms and en-suites, cherry-effect doors, the latest underfloor heating, and downlighters in the halls, kitchens, bathrooms and en-suites. Mei Woo and Gavin Kan are also of the opinion that prices compare very favourably with other parts of Surrey: from £264,950 for a two bedroom property.

But, price isn’t everything. Mei concludes: “It’s where we want to live, and it’s a lovely development with a nice ambience. And we noticed that Rushmon’s quality of finish is a lot higher than that of other developers. They’ve obviously put a lot of time and effort into the design of the building and the grounds.”
